Collaborating Constructively in Literature Circles!

Last week we worked with a partner doing Literature Circles. We divided the work in half, so I made one question, one important passage, one connection, and one vocabulary word, and my partner the same. This was the first time to do Literaturre Circles in partners so it was a great new experience that I will like to share with you.

The benefits of working with a partner were that we could read and work in Hummanities class,  by talking with our partner and trying to find important parts of the story. In class we could share and talk about our own ideas about the book, so we could understand the book better and we could do a better work in our Literature Circles.

But in our disscusion we encountered some challenges and some obstacles. Some of them were that we couldn't find a great passage to talk about and that made us feel frustrated. One of my problems was that I coudn't think about any good question that day, so I needed to disscus almost all the book with my partner so we could understand what was happening and what was important to the novel. But at last I guess everything worked out very well using our communication.

Now that I realize, being in partners really made me understand more the book because every time we had a question we could help each other. So now I would like to be in partners again because we can help each other and we can do a better performance like that.

Literature Circle Reflection

In the Literature Circles group we disscus the most important passages of the book we are reading. We give ideas, opinions and questions that help us understand the book better. Doing goups discussions have helped me to understand the book better because we communicate ideas and we can ask things we don't understand. We read paragraphs and we say if we agree that it is important. That means that my partners really help me to undertands and enjoy my novel "Maroo of the Winter Caves".

In the discussions we say connections and reactions that are about the book. Some connectons and reactions I made are this ones:
  • I liked the names that the author used, like: Maroo, Otak, Nimai and Tikek. They are maybe real names.

  • I like the spirit of adventure of Maroo because she is so brabe and smart.
I think that maroo is going to find out that her father is dead and she will need forces to get through it. Maybe having challlenging experiences will help Maroo to be stronger and she is going to be like her father.

I think too, that she will teach her little puppy how to do special jobs and she is going to make her tribe to improve.

Maybe she will become a great hunter like her dad was.

Thank you.

Awsome Field Trip Experience!!

Last week we had a field trip to Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. We had a lot of great activities, we went to see fireflies, we went to visit historical places and museums, we walked to see birds and different types of trees, and the most fun activity we made was planting mangroves! All these experiences were so cool but the one I liked the most was the mangrove planting.

At the beginning we started walking to the mangrove forest with the special boots that the park gave us. Then the guide talked us about how to move in the mud and how to plant. I thought it was really easy to plant but it wasn't. Next we took special gloves provided by the park too and started to walk in the mud. It was really easy to move at the beginning, but then suddenly the mud was drying so many people started to fall down into the mud!! I didn't want to get all muddy, so I was really careful until Maria pulled me because she was falling, so we both fell into the mud. That was so funny. I was scared to fall down because the guide told us that little crabs lived in the mud! The mud was drier on the middle of the mangrove forest and we needed to plant them there so it was really frustrating and annoying to take a step and get jammed on the mud. Actually we needed the help of the personal to get out of the mud! But at the end I finished planting and I was full of mud, it felt really weird.

As you can see this mangrove adventure was really cool, but I also learned that they are too important to the environment, because they can protect the environment from floods making enforcement with their roots and they can survive underwater. They too protect the environment from strong winds by growing large and large to keep the air away from the place.

I will like to return there to learn even more about these special plants because they allow the environment to survive, but besides of learning about mangroves I would like to learn about more different plants that help the environment to survive.

Thank you

A Day of Courage

Someday in your life you should do something that shows courage, because you need it to grow in life. I f you see something you are interested about but you are afraid and you don’t try it out, then you won’t have new experiences that make you braver
I had a moment when I needed to show courage...I was seven years old and I was about to have my first visit to the dentist. And I was really scared. My sister told me that it wasn't too bad to go to the dentist but I didn't believe her. It was the day of the visit to the dentist and I was in the waiting room trying to hear if the boy inside was crying in pain. I wanted my mom to hear the crying so that she noticed that it was a bad idea to come here, but no sound was heard inside the room. I don't understand why I was so scared. Maybe I thought that the doctor wanted to make me cry. Few minutes later the he opened the door and the boy came out of the room running but he was happy. So I thought maybe going to the dentist was not too bad and I went inside the room full of courage.

I couldn’t believe it didn't hurt. At the end of the check up he gave me a Popsicle. That visit to the dentist was great, so I said to myself:"I'm going to come every month!” Since that moment I felt like a new person trying to do everything without fear because I learned that if you try you can stop being afraid.

What do the Artifacts tell us about the Lives of Early Humans?

Im writing about this because i like to describe the images that the early humans draw. They are so interesting.
The first picture i chose is: The Spear thrower
Some details i saw in this image are this: the spear is brown/It has a hole at the bottom for the spear/It has a carved image of a horse/It is large. Some scientists help us to understand this painting saying that the spear was a decoration, or it can be related to the hunter’s name.

The second image i chose is:Cave painting of shapes and handprints
Some details are: the painting has animals running(maybe deer or horses)/There are handprints/Humans around the animals(maybe trying to hunt the animals)/Circular shapes/Zig zag line. Some scientist make us learn about this artifact by telling us that maybe the handprints were like their signs and  that the geometrical shapes have special meaning in rituals.

The last image i saw is:Clay sculptures
I saw details like this ones: One bison is like climbing/They are looking the same direction/they look small and dark.Scientist help us to learn that maybe the sculptures belonged to a certain clan. And that the early humans used this in special ceremonies.

I thing all this images were about hunting and I think that hunting was very important to all the early humans because it was the job that make them survive all their lives.

Which social scientist will you like to be?

I want to be an archaeologist.
There are many reasons i want to be an archaeologist, but i am only going to say 3:
the 1rt one because i want to discover things from the past (like fossils or artifacts that the early humans used to have). The 2nd one is because i want to travel around the world to look for the things of the past. And finally the 3th one because i want to be remembered as a famous archaeologist that discovered many things.

this is what i want to do.
