City Connections!

Hi

Last class everyone presented their City Connections. This was a presentation where we needed to talk about a city we've lived in and talk about the history and environmental factors that make that city important. I talked about Aguascalientes in Mexico and i think i did a good job making it and presenting it.

Well I think that my presentation was really good. First of all, I read the information, and then looked for pictures and I wrote the information in my own words. The day I presented I felt really nervous but I tried hard and I could do it. I heard all my comments and opinions and they said that I explained all the information really good and that they learned many things of Aguascalientes. So I think I did well in explaining details.

I think that if I do another presentation like this one, I would know what to do to improve. When I heard the students commenting, I always heard the same thing, and it was that I was talking too fast. When I am nervous, I always try to finish faster that is why I speak faster every second. I think that I need to work with my nerves because that can really affect me in my presentations. I need to relax and concentrate, because then they won’t understand what I am saying.

I heard many presentations of other students and I realized that every place it’s important in its own way. For example, some places had many mountains that make that place really beautiful and other places have many rivers that allow the city to have fertile soil. So I think that every place is important, and not just because you don’t know it, you won’t like it.

I think that I followed all the aspects of the rubric in my presentation, because I talked about environmental factors that helped Aguascalientes. I talked about the history of the city and all about the population and climate. In extra, I added many pictures, a video of beautiful places and pictures of hill and rivers. This means that I added more information and I think it was better like that. It was supposed to be 6 slides and above and I did 13 so I think it was a good job.

I am really happy that I could do a good job and I want to do another one soon because I think that the students can learn many things about different places of the world without going there and that is really helpful.

Bye!

Learning Profiles!

Hi!

In this blog post I am going to talk about my learning profile.
My profile is "OO". This means that I am kinesthetic and I use my hands to express my feelings and learn better.

1. I learn best when there is no sound to distract me. When there is any sound or noise I always turn around to know what is that, and that really distracts me from what I am doing. So I prefer to be in a quiet place where I just have what I need to work. I think that when I am concentrated the noise i really annoying.

2. I need to learn how to how to communicate the details. I learned that sometimes I don't explain really well and it's difficult to others to understand what i am saying. I should try to write more and with more details

3. The strategies that would help me in my learning are to be concentrated and to use my body to learn. For example to make puzzles or games.

4. I would like my teachers to know this about me: I like to use my body to learn so I would like to do dynamics to learn in an easier way.

Thank you

My new year's resolutions!

Hi!

In the last new year I had a great moments with my family. Before 12:00 we celebrated and talked about new goals and resolutions for the next year. As always, I had a lot of resolutions for 2010 and here are a few.

RESOLUTIONS:
  • To help people with their problems: I really like to help when there is something wrong going on. I will help anyone that needs a hand because doing that you will make really happy that person.
  • To be friendly and nice to everyone i know: I like to be friendly and kind to everyone because if they feel sad I can help them by giving them a smile and they will feel better.

GOALS:
  • To get better in school: I wil like to have a succesful future so I need to concentrate in school and have good grades to learn the best I can in every class.
  • To be more responsible with my homework: I am already responsible when it's about homeworks, but I will like to improve because doing homework will help me to learn and get better.

In this holiday break, i had so much fun with my family and friends. We went to Thailand for 6 days and to Singapore for 3 days.

In Phucket, Tailand we had so much fun because the first day when we arrived we went to the beach and took thousands of pictures! We stayed there until 7:00 when we decided to go back to the hotel and sleep. We spent the next 3 days in the beach swimming until one day my sister was bitten by a jellyfish so she was afraid to go to the beach again. So the next two days we swimmed in the pool and we still had fun. The next day was amazing because we went to a show called "FantaSea" where dancers performed really cool dances and Thailand stories. After that I rode a really big elephant! At the biginning it was scary but at the end I felt so happy and excited.

In Singapore we had fun too. The first day we arrived we went to a tour to different parts of singapore. We went to temples and we saw a big lion looked-like statue. The second day was the best because we went to Universal Studios! It was so cool because there were rollercoasters and water games, that were really exciting. And finally the last day, we went to Sentosa Beach and rode the "Banana" in the sea. We took a lot of pictures in all our vacations. Here are some:

I have a talent that no one knows. I can put my feet behind my head. Some people find it weird, but I think it's really cool.

As a conclusion this holiday was one of the bests of my life and I will never forget it. I feel so lucky to be here and have this kind of opportunities.

Bye!

Collaborating Constructively in Literature Circles!

Last week we worked with a partner doing Literature Circles. We divided the work in half, so I made one question, one important passage, one connection, and one vocabulary word, and my partner the same. This was the first time to do Literaturre Circles in partners so it was a great new experience that I will like to share with you.

The benefits of working with a partner were that we could read and work in Hummanities class,  by talking with our partner and trying to find important parts of the story. In class we could share and talk about our own ideas about the book, so we could understand the book better and we could do a better work in our Literature Circles.

But in our disscusion we encountered some challenges and some obstacles. Some of them were that we couldn't find a great passage to talk about and that made us feel frustrated. One of my problems was that I coudn't think about any good question that day, so I needed to disscus almost all the book with my partner so we could understand what was happening and what was important to the novel. But at last I guess everything worked out very well using our communication.

Now that I realize, being in partners really made me understand more the book because every time we had a question we could help each other. So now I would like to be in partners again because we can help each other and we can do a better performance like that.

Literature Circle Reflection

In the Literature Circles group we disscus the most important passages of the book we are reading. We give ideas, opinions and questions that help us understand the book better. Doing goups discussions have helped me to understand the book better because we communicate ideas and we can ask things we don't understand. We read paragraphs and we say if we agree that it is important. That means that my partners really help me to undertands and enjoy my novel "Maroo of the Winter Caves".

In the discussions we say connections and reactions that are about the book. Some connectons and reactions I made are this ones:
  • I liked the names that the author used, like: Maroo, Otak, Nimai and Tikek. They are maybe real names.

  • I like the spirit of adventure of Maroo because she is so brabe and smart.
I think that maroo is going to find out that her father is dead and she will need forces to get through it. Maybe having challlenging experiences will help Maroo to be stronger and she is going to be like her father.

I think too, that she will teach her little puppy how to do special jobs and she is going to make her tribe to improve.

Maybe she will become a great hunter like her dad was.

Thank you.

Awsome Field Trip Experience!!

Last week we had a field trip to Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. We had a lot of great activities, we went to see fireflies, we went to visit historical places and museums, we walked to see birds and different types of trees, and the most fun activity we made was planting mangroves! All these experiences were so cool but the one I liked the most was the mangrove planting.

At the beginning we started walking to the mangrove forest with the special boots that the park gave us. Then the guide talked us about how to move in the mud and how to plant. I thought it was really easy to plant but it wasn't. Next we took special gloves provided by the park too and started to walk in the mud. It was really easy to move at the beginning, but then suddenly the mud was drying so many people started to fall down into the mud!! I didn't want to get all muddy, so I was really careful until Maria pulled me because she was falling, so we both fell into the mud. That was so funny. I was scared to fall down because the guide told us that little crabs lived in the mud! The mud was drier on the middle of the mangrove forest and we needed to plant them there so it was really frustrating and annoying to take a step and get jammed on the mud. Actually we needed the help of the personal to get out of the mud! But at the end I finished planting and I was full of mud, it felt really weird.

As you can see this mangrove adventure was really cool, but I also learned that they are too important to the environment, because they can protect the environment from floods making enforcement with their roots and they can survive underwater. They too protect the environment from strong winds by growing large and large to keep the air away from the place.

I will like to return there to learn even more about these special plants because they allow the environment to survive, but besides of learning about mangroves I would like to learn about more different plants that help the environment to survive.

Thank you
