Greek Myths

On Saturday, during Humanities class, Mr Peter's played two small greek movies for us. One was about the Myth of Daedalus, and the second one, about Theseus. In this blog, I will be reflecting on each one of them.

What Myth did you like the most?
I really enjoyed watching the first myth, the one of Daedalus. I thought Icarus' cousin was so able to create new things, and that was the reason that made me like this story also the part where they escape with bird's feathers. But the fact that Icarus died because the wax melted, was very sad to me. But I still like it a lot; well at least more that the second myth.

Was it the characters or the story that you enjoyed?
I actually like both. The storyteller was a great character of the movie because he made you understand better what was happening. Icarus' cousin was very creative and always wanting to help, but on the other hand, Daedalus' son wasn't so good with his hands and he couldn't concentrate which was one of the reasons he died; because he couldn't listen to his dad when he told him not to go so high up the sky.

In thinking on the themes of these stories, what do they have in common?
They both describe the sadness of lossing someone you love. They all show how people get courage to accomplish something. And it also teaches people the importance of , because at some point Deadalus preferred his nephew instead of his son, and Theseus left the woma she loved in an island.

In conclusion, these 2 movies where very helpful to me, as they helped me understand better how important mythology was for the Greeks.

7th Grade Blog Post

Hello,
today I will be talking about my 6th grade experience. I believe that this year has been the best school year I've ever had. From Ms Parties to plays, and from assignments to projects. This year has helped me gain more confidence and feel better about being a new student in an international school.

What piece of work and learning are you most proud? I feel that this year I've improved so much. I've learnt many things I didn't know back in Mexico. From all the work I've done, I believe my two T.T.T. projects. In these projects, I've learnt about different empires, the Ancient Egyptian and the Ancient Rome Empires. I am really proud of these two projects because I think I've done a great job in the collaborating part. Even though we didn't research a LOT in these projects we used what we got and we made the projects really good. I love doing tic tac toes, because you have many different assignments to choose from. I hope we have T.T.T. projects next year too!

What were your greatest challenges? My greatest challenges through all this year, were a few. Firstly, that I wasn't that good with my English. This affected my performance in the beginning of the year because sometimes I couldn't really understand the teacher. Secondly, I was new so I didn't know my classmates which made it easier to get used to being here.

3. Reflecting on your growth this year, what did you learn about yourself as a learner? I learned that I get distracted easily and this can affect me a lot. I also learned that if you really want to be better you can ask teachers to help you out, and you can really improve. I feel proud of myself because I could finish this school year without any trouble and I learnt so many things that will be helpful in the future.

4. To evaluate your work habits, provide explanations about the following topic:
  • Behavior: I think I behave well in class. But sometimes, I get distracted with my classmates which makes me talk and not do my work. In the end, it affects my grades and behavior.
  • Performance: Satisfactory
  • Explanation: I believe that in the future, I can improve and concentrate more in what I am supposed to do instead of getting distracted with my classmates.

5. Based upon your reflections, write two personal learning goals for Grade 7 next year.

Goal 1 - In Grade 7, I plan to study more for my quizzes or exams, etc, so that I can have better understanding in the topics and to get better grades.

Goal 2 - In Grade 7, I plan to concentrate more in my classes because then I can understand the teacher better and I can learn better for the important projects or tests that we could have in the future.

6. Is there any more information about yourself that you would like the teachers to know? I take time to feel comfortable in classes and that is because I don't know the teacher very well. But don't worry to much, because once I get to know them, I will start behaving how I normally do.

7. What was your favorite activity lesson in Humanities this year? What did you enjoy about it? My favorite lesson in Humanities was Mesopotamia because we had to do an awesome project about Babylonia We had to choose a song and change the lyrics that had to talk about a ruler from there. I really enjoyed it.

8. What activity do you wish we could have spent more time on? I think we should have took more time with the Tic Tac Toes because our dead line was too short. I think the best thing to do was to give us about 3 weeks to work on it because we had to work on three different assignments!

9. Finally, cast your minds back to the first few months of middle school (when you arrived in Grade 6 ) what "Words of Wisdom" or "Advice" could yo
u pass on to the Class of 2018? Have fun, but remember to focus on school too!

BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS!!!

HI,

Today I am going to be talking about my favorite book. My favorite book is called 'Clubes Rivales' and the author is Javier Malpica. Even though it is in spanish, I love to read it. It is about a group of girls and a group of boys competing to see which group is better. But the exciting thing about this book, is all the challenges they have, for example, once they had to get into a hunted house and stay there all night. I really like this book because I teaches the readers about team collaboration and friendship.

This book made me think about friendship and collaboration, because in the end, they all became really good friends. Everyone worked together to prove which group was better, but in the end that didn't matter anymore because everyone proved loyalty and honesty to each other.

This book challenged me as a reader because this book is more advanced like the the other 6th grade books I've read. It has many vocabulary that I didn't know, and the author wrote many metaphors that were hard to understand. I believe that in the end, I learned so many things Even though I learned in spanish, it will help me with my english too, because I can just change all I learned into English and it will be the same.

If you want to read this book, of course you can, and you will love it! But I will recommend you not to read this book if you don't like reading about friendship and amazing adventures. And don't read it if you don't know spanish otherwise you won't understand it. :D

I hope you enjoyed my reflection, and I hope I gave you enough reasons for you to read this book!

My Spring Break Adventures!

My spring break was extremely awesome, even though I didn't travel anywhere. I spent all of my vacations with my friends and family, so I was not bored at all. I had many things to do during this break so I finished up really exhausted.

One of the things I had to do was to buy everything in my Malaysia Week Camping List. Some of the things in my M.W.L. were things I already had, like a toothbrush, a comb, and more toiletry we all use in everyday life. I thought it was going to be really easy and fun to make my bag but after reading all the list, I felt very worried. There were so many things and clothes I didn't know about. "How and where am I going to find these things" I said to myself. I printed the list out and told my dad to help me find everything because I know that he is an expert in anything that has to be with sports. Anyways he had to help me because since my mom was gone for one month to go to Mexico, he was the only one that could drive me to buy everything. We went to Pavillion, KLCC, Ampang Point and many more malls in search for everything in the list. We ended up missing a couple of things but my dad told me that once my mom arrived she would help me find the missing things. My mom was coming home later that week so I wasn't worried at all anymore.

Two days after that, it was Sunday morning, the day when my mom was arriving, when my dad told me that he was going to his work to pick some folders with important papers in them and it would take him some time. He added that maybe my mom would arrive while he was gone so he wanted us to be aware of the door just if someone like my mom knocked. I was super excited to see my mother again, even though I saw her two weeks ago when I traveled to Mexico, I really missed her a lot. I could not wait to see her get out of the elevator of my building, so I went out of my house with a chair and sat down outside the elevator waiting for my mom to get out. It was 2:00 pm when the doors of the elevator opened and I saw my mom with her luggage. I screamed "MAMA!!" as I helped her with her bags and called Paola, my sister, to help us up. That was the best day of all my spring break!

The next day, I told her that I needed some things for MW and she told me that she first needed to go to the supermarket because while she was gone, we totally forgot about buying food for the kitchen so we were just eating in Pavillion or KlCC every single day. I told her that it was OK for me and we went together to buy all we didn't have in the fridge. Once we were done, we spent the rest of the day looking for my things, specially my sarong which was very hard to find because since we didn't know what it was we needed to ask every store in search of it. At last we found everything in the list, which made me very happy.

That same day I chatted with Maria telling her that my mom was back and that I completed my MW list. She said that she was still missing things but she was gonna buy them later that week. Then I got a great idea, I told her if she could come over to my house to have a play day. She totally agreed with me and went with her mom to ask if she could come. I felt happy and excited with the answer which was yes.

The next morning was cloudy and gray, I thought that maybe it was going to rain because the way the sky looked and maybe that would ruin my play day with my Best Friend. I took a long and relaxing shower after that hoping that it was not going to rain. I got out of the shower and started changing when my cellphone rang. Maria called me telling me that maybe she was going to take longer to get to my house because of the storm. I said "What rain?" and then looked out the window. The rain was pouring down like a waterfall! I thought that the sky was going to fall! But maria said that the rain wouldn't ruin our day. She called me for the last time at 3:30 pm telling me that she was down at the door of my building. I went down the elevator and opened the door and then as I hugged her she said "Man! I missed you so bad!" We went inside my house happily and ready to have fun.

We played board games and watched TV while we were waiting for the storm to stop. And once it did, we ran to my room to get money. Every time she comes over to my house we always buy candies and chips down in the pool area because there is a really nice and cheap store over there. We got all the candies we wanted and then watched a really confusing and weird movie with my sister called "Inception". I didn't really enjoy it because it was about a guy who has dreams inside dreams and they need to solve a problem by getting into many different "stages of dreams". I totally did not understand the end but anyways I watched it all because Leonardo Di Caprio is the main actor and I like him a lot.

After the movie we made us instant noodles and then watched another movie. I've watched that movie 3 times already and I think its really cool and really entertaining. After a few minutes we fell asleep in the couch were we watched T.V. Then the next morning we woke up with our necks swollen, since we slept without pillows. Then we ate breakfast and after that Maria's mom picked her up. We really liked our play day even though we just watched movies.

The next few days I spent them in the pool or shopping at malls and when it was Sunday night I felt a knot in my stomach because it was the day before classes and i didn't want vacations to end. They flowed really fast. But still even though it wasn't a huge vacation I enjoyed it a lot. And anyways we just have one week of classes and then: MALAYSIA WEEK!! I cant wait to go to Langkawi! Its going to be so fun because I am going with Maria, Megan, Laura, Yu Ern, Melody and Julie! We are all in the same class so we really are going to like our trip.

So these were all my Spring Break Adventures, which I loved and I can't wait to have the next vacations to have more adventures to tell you about.

Bye!!

The Giver Lit Cirlce Reflection #4

By reading chapters 16-18 I have seen that Jonas is facing some times of choices and freedom. Here are few reasons.

He is not allowed to give any memory to someone, but every time Gabriel wakes up at night Jonas chooses to give memories expecting him to relax and go to sleep, but even though he does that, I do not think its the best way to calm the baby because he is breaking a very important rule from his job.

He received the giver's favourite memory which was the Christmass memory. This experience helped Jonas understand love, union, happiness and many more beautiful feelings when you are with your family. Jonas is learning more about the "Elsewhere" which I think is the normal world. So maybe having this memories will want him to escape and feel it by himself by being in the normal world. WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS!

The Giver Reflection

Question: Would you want your future to be decided by others? Why or why not?

I would say no. I dont think that somebody would like to live like that because they cant choose what they want to do for their lives. An example is the community where Jonas lives in. There everything is planned for everyone, they would receive a name they would grow up with a family unit and then they would have a job at the same age. That is for every single person in there. But in my perspective, I think that its better if you choose your own job and you live your life the way you want it to be.

Its better if you dont have your life planned because then your life would be boring and simple. If you can just experience different things everyday you can learn more about life and you will have more experience that others. If you just follow the same schedule all the time I think you would get tired of being the same as eveyone.

As a result, I think that its preferable to have your own life with our own rules, where you can choose your own and you dont have so many rules as Jonas' community. Maybe later they might change some of the rules because many people are getting tired.

Hope you enjoy my blog!!
